Shillong: Four members of a family, including a woman and two minors, were killed when the debris of a landslide from a hillock came crashing down on the house at Pynthorlangtein village in West Jaintia Hills district, police said.
The incident took place at 5:30am on Sunday following incessant rains.
Police said the family members were asleep when the landslip led to their house collapsing.
The villagers who witnessed the tragic incident launched a rescue operation, but could not save any of the family members.
The victims are identified Biangki Phawa (29), his wife Pynjanai Ryngkhlem (25) and their children, Edyfy Ryngkhlem (5) and Iwadaroi Ryngkhlem (3).
The Conrad Sangma-led government has instructed Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District to release ex gratia funds at Rs 4 lakh per person to the next of kin.
