Imphal: Manipur government’s security advisor Kuldiep Singh on Monday revealed that a combing operation has been launched in order to recover the weapons, which were snatched by miscreants during the riot since May 3.
He said Chief Minister N Biren Singh had given an appeal and request to everyone approximately 15 days back to surrender the looted weapons.
“We have started combing operations from today (Monday) and these operations will go on till all the looted weapons have been recovered,” Singh told reporters.
“Such a huge number of sophisticated weapons remaining with the general public is not a good idea because these will land into the hands of the miscreants,” he added.
The security advisor said combing operations were launched at Kakching, Imphal East, Imphal West, Churachandpur and Thoubal districts in which eleven arms and 20 ammunitions 2 kg gun power, radio sets, uniforms, grenade were recovered.
“Manipur Police is helping the NIA, CBI to arrest people involved in various crimes,”he said.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh had earlier said that 1,014 weapons and over 7,500 ammunition were snatched from police stations and battalions camps during the riot.
