Assam CM orders maintenance  of roads connecting with Bhutan

Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday instructed Public Works Department (PWD) officials to maintain and repair roads connecting Assam with Bhutan to promote tourism and economy on both sides.

“To take stock of the condition of highways and roads connecting Assam and Bhutan, HCM Dr @himantabiswa held a meeting with officials of PWD and other concerned officials and instructed them to maintain and repair these roads to bring them to the best condition to complement tourism and economy on both sides,” the Chief Minister’s Office said in a post on X.

Earlier this month, Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk visited Assam for the first time and travelled to different important places during his three-day tour.  He also visit Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its one-horned rhinos.

Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma called on the 43-year-old king and discussed a wide range of issues, including rail connectivity, cross-border trade infrastructure, economic cooperation, tourism, education, skill development, environmental conservation, and nurturing people to people connections.

Assam shares a 267km-long border with Bhutan.
