Umsaw : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, said that the ongoing law and order in Manipur would be best handled by the State government.
“The situation is improving but there are few problems. I am sure it will be resolved. Anyway, all the Chief Ministers from the region are in constant touch with the Chief Minister of Manipur. Whatever help is required and cooperation we are doing from our side,” he said on the sidelines of the passing out parade at the North Eastern Police Academy here in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district.
Asked if he should not take the lead to go to Manipur, Sarma quipped “Not now”.
Nearly 200 people have been killed since the ethnic clashes erupted between the Meitei community and tribal Kuki-Zo community, on May 3. Several hundred people were injured and tens of thousands internally displaced in the violence, which is still ongoing in some locations.
The Manipur government has extended the ban on internet services for another five days until November 23 due to the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
