Shot in the arm for BJP as big guns from Congress and TMC joins saffron party in Assam

Guwahati:  Two former Congress leaders from Assam who resigned from the party recently and one Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader joined the ruling BJP on Saturday.

Former Nagaon District Congress President Suresh Bora, former Working President of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Paritosh Roy and former General Secretary of TMC Dilip Sarma met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The trio along with their supporters workers, mostly from the Congress, joined the BJP  at a formal ceremony in the state party headquarters here in presence of BJP Assam unit president Bhabesh Kalita, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu and several MLAs and top party leaders.

The former Congress and TMC leaders quit their respective parties voicing their dissent against the INDIA bloc.

Welcoming them into the BJP fold, Sarma maintained that BJP is the only party that works in the interest of the nation, with no place for dynastic politics.

“I have always stressed on the fact that those who want to work for Bharat and Assam have no place in dynastic and family-centric parties as only @BJP4India works in the interest of the nation,” Sarma wrote on X.

“Suresh Bora, Nagaon District Congress president, Paritosh Roy, working president, Assam Pradesh Youth Congress, and Dilip Sarma, general secretary, TMC, announce their resignation, marking a decisive turn. Aligning with HCM @Himantabiswa, they’ll join BJP today, voicing their dissent against the I.N.D.I. alliance,” the official X handle of BJP Assam Pradesh posted.

Suresh Borah handed over his resignation to the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President, Bhupen Borah on Friday while Paritosh Roy and Dilip Sarma handed over their resignations to their respective party presidents on Saturday.
