Four tribal Kuki-Zo people, including two women, went missing after they were allegedly kidnapped on Tuesday morning by suspected Meitei militant group Arambai Tenggol near Kangchup Chingkhong village in Kangpokpi district.
In the ensuing scuffle, a 65-year-old man identified as Manglun Haokip got injured in firing and fell unconscious. Haokip was rescued by security forces and has been seriously injured.
“Thinking him (Manglun Haokip) to be dead, he was left behind. CRPF personnel later found him and transported him to Leimakhong. Due to the severity of his injuries, he has been airlifted to a neighbouring state,” ITLF spokesperson Ginza Vualzong said in a statement.
“After the incident, Arambai Tenggol chief Korounganba Khuman shared a post on social media stating: Today some domestic wine (wild) animen (animal) has been brought to the Zoo,” the ITLF said.
“We fear they (four abducted persons) may have been killed or are being tortured. We fervently request central security forces to

“When ITLF met Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, we demanded the removal of Meitei state forces in all hill districts. The minister disregarded our request but promised that he would not allow state forces to be deployed independently and they would only act “in conjunction” with central forces in hill areas. Recent!events have shown that this is not being followed in letter or spirit,”Vualzong said.
He also alleged that Meitei commandos of the Manipur police are being given a free hand to assault civilians and burning down houses and vehicles set
ablaze and money looted from homes.
“What are the central forces doing!?
In a conflict between Meiteis and tribals, why are Meitei forces allowed to conduct operations among tribals? What is preventing the central government from deploying neutral central forces among the tribal population,” the ITLF asked.
“It is time to put electoral political considerations aside and look at the humanitarian toll. When the majority community that controls the state government is trying to eliminate the minority tribal population, it is the duty of the central government to safeguard the rights and lives of the true victims of this conflict. We need a separate administration to live apart from those who want our destruction,” Vualzong said.
