Shillong: Meghalaya Law minister and candidate of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) from Shillong parliamentary seat, Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday said that she has not been convicted in connection with an alleged education scam related to the appointment of assistant teachers in government lower primary schools during 2009-2010 and no political parties should take advantage of the allegation and make it looks like she has been convicted.
As the case against Lyngdoh is going on in court, she told reporters that it would be subjudice on her part to speak about it.
“The case is now being currently heard in the court. It would be subjudice on my part to speak about it. I would like to say and place on record, the case is well being heard in the court. I have never at any point in time been convicted. Let no political party take advantage with this and make it looks like I have been convicted,” Lyngdoh said while replying to a question, how she would take on opponents who may use this case a stick to whip her in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Stating that the truth will reign supreme, Lyngdoh said, “I stand by that. I will not speak more but I am confident that the truth will emerge as it is. Do not use it because at one point of time there will be repercussion of all of this. I will not speak more. No man is guilty until proven otherwise. Use it, throw that ball around, I am not afraid because I am doing greater things. And when I go to court, I know what is being discussed not any man on the streets or politicians who will be trying to bat with that with me. I am ready I’ll take you on.”
Lyngdoh, who was the then education minister, is among many politicians who have been named of their involvement in the alleged large scale irregularities related to the appointment of assistant teachers in government lower primary schools in Meghalaya.
