Umroi: A joint military exercise involving troops of India and Malaysia began on Monday with an aim to enhance the level of defence co-operation between Indian Army and the Malaysian Army at Joint Training Node Umroi Cantonment in Meghalaya, the defence ministry said here.
The exercise is an annual training event between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Army being held since 2012, a defence official said.
Code-named “Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023”, the joint bilateral training exercise between the Indian Army and Malaysian Army will culminate on November 5.
The Malaysian Army contingent comprised troops from the 5th Royal Battalion of the Malaysian Army, while the Indian contingent will be represented by a Battalion of the Rajput Regiment.
“The joint exercise is aimed at enhancing military capability for conduct of multi-domain operations in a sub conventional scenario,” Shillong-based Defence PRO, Wing Commander Sreeprakash said.
During the exercise, he said both contingents will establish a joint command post and establish an integrated surveillance grid along with a joint surveillance centre.
Both sides will rehearse employment of joint forces in jungle/ semi urban / urban environment. In addition, intelligence collection, collation and dissemination drills will also be rehearsed, the PRO said.
“The exercise will also witness employment of Drones/UAVs and Helicopters. Two sides will also practice casualty management and evacuation drills. Both the contingents will discuss logistics management and practice survival training at the Battalion levels,” Sreeprakash said, adding that the joint exercise will culminate with a 48-hour long validation exercise in a semi-urban area.
