Shillong: Meghalaya has started its preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state.
Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), BDR Tiwari on Wednesday held a meeting with deputy commissioners of various districts as well as officers deputed by the Election Commission of India.
Tiwari said that the meeting discussed mainly two issues, one related to the special summary revision (SSR) of electoral rolls, and another related to the first level checking of electronic voting machines (EVMs).
“Preparations have started and our focus is on the special summary revision of electoral rolls and first level checking of EVMs. We will also discuss other issues later as the election approaches,” Tiwari said.
On May 29, 2023, the Election Commission instructed states (except Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana) to carry out the special summary revision of electoral rolls with January 1, 2024 as the qualifying date.
As per the schedule, integrated draft electoral rolls will be published on October 17, 2023 and the final publication of electoral rolls on January 5, 2024.
