BJP releases list of 21 candidates for upcoming Mizoram polls
Aizawl: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday released its list of 21 candidates for the November 7 elections to the 40-member Mizoram Assembly.
The BJP has allotted tickets to former Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo and former Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. K. Beichhua who had earlier joined the party after they quit as members of the assembly and from the primary membership of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF).
Lalrinliana and Beichhua will be contesting from Mamit and Saiha assembly constituency respectively.
BJP’s Mizoram State unit President Vanlalhmuaka will contest elections from the Dampa constituency.
The BJP also fielded four women candidates R. Lalbiaktluangi from Lunglei West, Judy Zohmingliani from Tuivawl, F Laremsangi from Aizawl South-I and K. Vanlalruati from Serchip.
In a 40-member Mizoram assembly, MNF secured 26 seats with a vote share of 37.8 per cent to emerge victorious in the 2018 polls.
The Congress secured five seats with a vote share of 29.98 per cent and BJP won one seat with a vote share of 8.09 per cent.
