Aizawl: Security forces have recovered a huge cache of ammunition and explosives near Lungbun village along the India-Myanmar border in Mizoram’s Siaha district, an official said on Tuesday.
Acting on specific input about movement of warlike stores towards Myanmar through Lungbun crossing, Inspector General of Police Lalbiakthanga Khiangte said troopers of Assam Rifles along with Siaha police launched joint operation in and around the area.
“The team spotted two smugglers carrying some articles and when they were asked to halt, the duo dropped their bags and fled towards Myanmar by hurriedly crossing the Kolodyne river,” Khiangte said.
On searching the area, he said the joint team recovered the bags and found 150 live rounds of AK-47 rifle ammunition, 100 number of gelatines, 100 numbers of detonators, : 10 metres of wire (codex) and ten number of battery cells
