Aizawl: Metamphetamine tablets worth over Rs six crores have been seized and arrested two persons in two separate incidents in poll-bound Mizoram’s Champhai district, police said on Tuesday.
Around 70,000 Metamphetamine tablets weighing 7 kilograms was seized from a truck at Zokhawthar Immigration check-post and arrested a 40-year-old man identified as Thangtinkap on Monday, police said.
The seized drugs is worth Rs. 17, 525,00 based on the local market, police said.
In another incident, a team of Mizoram police and Assam Rifles conducted a joint operation at Tiau river and seized 1, 71,700 tablets of Metamphetamine weighing 17 kilos worth Rs 42,925,000 in the local market.
Police said they have arrested a 34-year-old man identified Laldinlian from the spot along with the drugs, and a case has been registered.
Preliminary investigation and interrogation of the two accused revealed that the banned drugs were being smuggled from Myanmar, they said.
Champhai district is located in the North East corner of Mizoram bordering Manipur in the North and Myanmar in the East and South.
Meanwhile, police have booked the two arrested persons under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
