Mizoram: Chakma Autonomous District Council leaders resign from MNF, likely to join ZPM

AIZAWL: Chief Executive Member of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) Rasik Mohan Chakma, along with 16 members of the district council, resigned from the Mizo National Front (MNF), and are all set to join the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) party.

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has raised concerns over the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), highlighting what he perceives as inconsistent actions and statements made by the political outfit.

The Chief Minister’s remarks is in response to the ZPM’s earlier assertion that they “don’t need Chakma votes,” coupled with their subsequent establishment of a party unit in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC).

The decision of the Chakma leaders to resign from the MNF and join the ZPM is a major political development in Mizoram, and is going to play an important role during the run up to the state assembly election, which is scheduled to be held in November this year.

While the Congress has failed as an opposition party, the ZPM, which is a new entrant in Mizoram’s political theatre is all set to pose a serious challenge to the ruling MNF.
