Aizawl: Mizoram will go to fresh Assembly elections with the Election Commission of India fixing the date of polling on November 7 and counting of votes on December 3 this year.
Interestingly, counting of votes on December 3 falls on a Sunday which may not go down well in the Christian-majority state of Mizoram.
The notification will be issued on October 13 marking the commencement of the process for filing of nominations.
The last date for filing of nominations is October 20 and the scrutiny of nominations is October 21.
The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is October 23.
All election processes should be completed before December 5.
Mizoram has 40 Assembly seats, and the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) has already released its candidates who will contest from all the 40 Assembly constituencies.
The MNF, led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga is an ally of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), an alliance of non-Congress political parties in the North East.
