Aizawl: Congress has stepped up its campaign for the ensuing elections to Mizoram state assembly with party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be canvassing for party candidates in the poll-bound state next week.
Elections to the 40-member assembly will be held on November 7 and the counting of votes will take place on December 3.
“She (Priyanka) is likely to campaign for party candidates in linguistic minority areas in the southern and western parts of Mizoram on November 4,” Mizoram Congress spokesperson Lalremruata Renthlei said.
Congress leader Rahul Gandi had campaigned for party candidates in Aizawl and south Mizoram’s Lunglei town during his visit to Mizoram from October 16 to 17.
Rahul had exuded confidence about his party’s victory returning to power in Mizoram.
Former Union Minister and veteran Congress Jairam Ramesh is scheduled to arrive in Mizoram’s capital on Thursday. He will have a closed door meeting with party leaders and address a press conference.
Karnataka Energy Minister K J George is expected to arrive in Mizoram on October 8 and will hold meetings with party leaders.
Another senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is expected to arrive in on November 3 in Mizoram. The Thiruvananthapuram MP will be interacting with youth and students.
