Aizawl: The repatriation of 29 Myanmar soldiers, who surrendered to Mizoram police on Thursday, has been delayed due the inclement weather in Mizoram, an official said on Friday.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) were supposed to airlift the fleeing soldiers from an unidentified designated area on Friday but cancelled the repatriation plans due to incessant rain.
The 29 Myanmar soldiers landed in Mizoram’s Saikhumphai village after the Chin National Defence Force (CNDF) rebels overran their military camp at Tuibual village located near Tiau river on Myanmar-Mizoram border.
They handed over their arms and ammunition to the Mizoram Police.
Earlier this week, 42 Myanmar soldiers entered India’s Mizoram state after their military bases at Rihkhawdar and Khawmawi in Chin State were overrun by the anti-junta rebels.
The 42 Myanmar soldiers were airlifted from Zokhawthar to the 5th Assam Rifles helipad at Manipur’s Moreh town in a IAF’s Mi 17 helicopter. The Assam Rifles dropped them off at Tamu, Myanmar.
