KOHIMA: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister, TR Zeliang has asked the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to expedite works of its projects in the state.
Zeliang met the NHIDCL managing director Mahmood Ahmed on Saturday and took a review of the progress of the ongoing road projects in Nagaland.
Since setting up of NHIDCL in 2014, many state highways in Nagaland were handed over to the corporation and. At present, there were 13 national highways under its jurisdiction in Nagaland.
Zeliang expressed his displeasure as none of the major road projects could be completed till now by the NHIDCL in Nagaland.
The deputy chief minister asked the NHIDCL MD to expedite completion of some important projects at least by the end of 2023.
As the Nagaland portion of the four-lane Dimapur bypass road was completed, but some portion in Assam remained incomplete, the MD of NHIDCL agreed in principle to complete by December 2023.
Completion of the bypass would immensely ease traffic congestion within Dimapur and would also be convenient for heavy goods carriers and transporters heading toward Manipur and Myanmar.
With the completion of Dimapur bypass, the Dimapur-Kohima four-lane road and the Kohima bypass, connectivity to Manipur- Myanmar would be complete, which would then be a corridor to the Southeast Asian countries.
Since the Kohima-Mao Road was a bottleneck to achieving the dream, the meeting deliberated at length and agreed to jointly work out a mechanism to resolve such issues at the earliest.
