NDPP announces Wangpang Konyak as candidate for by-election to Tapi Assembly seat

NDPP president, Chingwang Konyak hands over party ticket to Wangpang Konyak .

Dimapur: The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has announced Wangpang Konyak as its candidate for the by-election to Tapi Assembly seat in Mon district.

The by-election was necessitated following the death of veteran NDPP MLA, Noke Wangnao, the then advisor for social welfare, on August 28 this year.

NDPP president, Chingwang Konyak declared the name of Wangpang Konyak as the official candidate of the party to contest the by-election.

Wangpang resigned as the superintendent in the Directorate of New Renewable Energy to contest the by-election.

The BJP, an ally of the NDPP, has decided not to field candidate and support Konyak for the by-election.
The Congress, which failed to win any seat in 2018 and 2023 Nagaland assembly elections, has recommended Wanglem Konyak as its official candidate.

Wanglem resigned from the Naga People’s Front (NPF), which is also an ally of the NDPP-led government, and had joined the Congress recently.

He contested the 2023 elections from Tapi assembly constituency as NPF candidate in the 2023 Assembly polls and lost to NDPP candidate Noke by 82 votes.

Noke polled 5,864 votes while Wanglem secured 5,782 votes.

Voting for the by-poll will be held on November 7, and the counting of votes will be held on December 3 (Sunday).
