Gangtok : The Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) has issued an advisory following a “slight rise” of water level in the Teesta river asking all those in the low-lying areas to stay alert.
“As per information received from Army TCP, Chungthang, the water level has risen in Muguthang area and proceeding downstream. All those in the low-lying areas are advised to stay alert,” the SSDMA said in an advisory issued on Wednesday.
“The advisory was issued after the Army alerted us that the water levels have risen in Muguthang area and proceeding downstream,” an official of the SSDMA said. Search is on for the missing people, who were swept away by the flash flood triggered by an outburst of the Lhonak glacial lake in North Sikkim on October 4.
Meanwhile, the construction of Bailey bridge over Teesta river at Phidang connecting Dzongu suffered a setback due to the rising of water levels on Wednesday morning.
